The Gilded Girls
********************************************************************************************
We find ourselves in the midst of some serious headband love around here. Stella has fully embraced the concept, and is now actively participating in the design process.
She is particularly partial to soft. And pink. That about covers it for her.
She is of course also fond of a lacy dress... something comfortable and easy to take on and off. And something with a bit of "swing".
She is very wise.
She keeps us on our toes.
This week we have a bit of pink, a lot of lace, and a touch of metallic silver just because.
Ruffly organza roses are becoming a staple in our studio. So many quick and easy ways to create something special with them.
A super-simple design for the dress... only two pattern pieces. Love.
A trio of pink roses and a lacy ruffle handstitched on near the hem.
A bit of swing at the sides, just right for a stroll through the "pom" trees.
The comfort factor in action, stooping down low to say hello to the koi.
Never fear, she does have on pale pink leggings under the dress, along with a pale gray tanktop. The armholes were cut on the low side so it would be easier to put the dress on over her head. It is a woven fabric (no stretch), so it must be cut to allow enough room for a 3 year-old to maneuver in and out without angst.
Plus, we love the look of it layered over a tank and leggings. Keeps it from being too fancy.
Touches of metallic silver lace around the top, creating a bib-necklace effect. The same lace is repeated near the hemline.
This outfit makes her happy. Or perhaps it's the faint sprinkling of water coming from the fountain. Either way, it's a win. :)
This outfit took me about three hours, start to finish, and that includes drafting the pattern.
Please note that this lace yardage is sold in an ivory color, a few shades paler than what is shown here. I resisted until the very end, but ultimately I dunked this entire dress, after it was completed, into a weak coffee bath. As mentioned in a previous post, I really love the look this creates, and so far I cannot find a regular dye that produces the same color. It will of course mostly wash out when laundered, but I am okay with dipping it again each time.
