The Boy would like to bid a fond farewell to Brett Favre. He acknowledges that a legend has left the field.
Not having been born in Wisconsin, not even having ever been to Wisconsin, he has come to his GREEN BAY PACKERS enthusiasm by way of a close personal relationship with a true fanatic his good friend, Tom Taylor. Never mind that he happens to be The Boy's godfather...the man just has a passion for football.
Tom is a native of Wisconsin, and in the fifteen or so years that he has lived in California, Tom has never faltered in his life-long devotion to the PACKERS, and his respect, admiration and quite frankly, "man-love" for Number 4. He has even gone so far as to retire his email address that referenced Mr. Favre. In fact, Tom has only missed one PACKERS game opening kickoff since he was in SEVENTH. GRADE. And that was to attend The Boy's first birthday party, a fact over which we are still experiencing shock-and-awe. Such loyalty (not to mention friendship) is truly admirable.
Tom, we are really feeling your pain right now. The Boy will miss sitting on your couch, eating your barbequed chicken and waiting for the next ear-splitting outburst verbal demonstration of joy and/or frustration. He will miss walking out to the beach at halftime to toss the ball around with you and Sebastian. Being tossed in the air himself a dozen times was always a bonus.
So now, who will be the measuring stick for all things football?? Who will show him how to throw the ball with either hand with equal accuracy? Who will teach him about fan loyalty, and how one goes about arranging an entire life around a team's schedule?? It was a great run this year, the first real season of watching football for The Boy, and it ended all too soon.
Oh, wait...What ?!?
You mean the PACKERS will still play next year, only now with a less talented different quarterback?? The great tradition that is the PACKERS will live on at Lambeau?
Oh, okay...well, in that case, The Boy would like to reserve his usual spot on the couch for next season.
